THE 22nd ADI - RP SECTION BIENNIAL CONVOCATION : Rise Above the Pandemic
The 44th Anniversary and 22nd ADI - RP Section Biennial Convocation was held last April 10 , 2021. It was the first , and hopefully , the last Biennial Convocation to be held online due to the COVID - 19 pandemic.
The convocation was preceded by a pre-convocation webinar on “Grit : Where Passion Meets Purpose” by Dr. Queena Lee Chua.
Dr. Chua specializes in math and science education, learning psychology, parenting and teen's and children's issues, and has written numerous books and has garnered numerous awards locally and internationally.
Dr. Chua talked on how one can develop grit in students during difficult times.
The webinar was made available to the public and was shared several times on social media.
Fellows and Active Members
The Biennial Convocation was attended by more than 50 Fellows of the Academy , the five new Fellows and six Active Members . The highlight of the convocation was the investiture of the five new Fellows presented by the Chairperson of the Membership Committee Fellow Margaret Tiu : Dr. Jonathan F. Fandialan , Dr. Marie Carmela Rossini T. Lachica , Dr. Joy R. Memorando , Dr. Lordjie Marr O. Morilla and Dr. Liel Ma . Theresa L. Plantig .
Fellow Ermelinda Sabater - Galang , who later was also inducted as Life Fellow , gave a very inspiring and moving address during the charging of the new Fellows .
She reminded that the duties of an ADI Fellow does not only include religiously attending meetings and settling annual dues but more importantly , in " building collegial and respectful relationships with one another ” as “ relationships are paramount ” .
Fellow Galang also extolled the value of lifelong learning and to utilize technology to reach out and fulfill our social responsibility . She reminded everyone the virtue of humility , which every great teacher should possess , keeping in mind that “ although you are an expert , you may not know everything . "
She finished her charge by saying that ADI Fellows can and should make a difference .
Fellow Elaine del Rosario led the new Fellows in the ADI Pledge .
Fellow Jonathan Fandialan gave the response on behalf of the newly inducted Fellows , praising the acts of social responsibility exhibited by the Fellows of ADI and saying he and his fellow inductees are filled with “ happiness , pride and gratitude " to be part of ADI - RP Section
Six active members were also presented : Dr. Ma . Alicia Camacho , Dr. Richa Carreon Marcos , Dr. Marian Almyra S. Naranjilla , Dr. Filipina Ng , Dr. Ma . Leah Ragadio and Dr. Marie Arlene Christine Tolentino - Valerio .
Another highlight of the convocation was the conferment of Life Fellowship to Past President Fellow Ermelinda Sabater - Galang .
The second part of the Convocation was the Induction of the next set of officers where President Armin Segarra transferred the presidency to Fellow Michelle Segarra .
In his valedictory address , President Armin expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to have served the Academy for four years and is very happy to pass on the torch to the incoming president .
The board members for 2021-2023 were inducted by Life Fellow and Past President Ermelinda Sabater - Galang .
President Michelle Segarra , in her inaugural address presented her programs and plans for 2021-2023 , one of which strengthening ties with the mother organization .
The Convocation also featured a video showing how the ADI Fellows rose above the pandemic by doing socio - civic activities and celebrating milestones with their families . The ADI fellows indeed have grit and determination and can rise above the pandemic .
The solemn ceremony was concluded by a Benediction delivered by Past President Fellow Rosario A. Damatac . It was ably hosted by Fellow Cristina Laureta , with voice over by Fellow Christian Ermita . The mace bearer was Fellow Rafael Borromeo and the marshal was Fellow Iluminada Viloria .
